Keurig’s convenient design allows you to enjoy a single cup of coffee without dirtying the entire coffee machine, but it creates so much more waste than brewing a pot of coffee.
Most K-cups, unfortunately, end up in the landfill rather than being recycled and that’s why we at Singlecup are here to give you five new ideas to upcycle your K-cups!
- Refill K-cups with Coffee!
The ultimate upcycling for a K-cup is to reuse it as, you guessed it, a K-cup! Once you’ve cleaned it out and let it dry, simply fill it with your favourite coffee grounds. Make your own foil cover with a 3 inch square of aluminum foil and then brew as normal! These squares crimp easily around the edge of your K-cup and will create less waste than a disposable K-cup lid!
- K-Cups - the new Seed Starter!
Tiny seedlings need a place to start, and the perfect place is inside your used K-cups! Fill the cleaned cup with potting soil and sprinkle two to three seeds in each cup. Gently cover with a tad more soil and carefully water, then put them in a container with a clear lid and wait for those babies to sprout! Once they’ve outgrown the K-cups, transfer them straight to your garden or into bigger pots and save those K-cups for next spring!
- Fill ‘em with Stuff and Freeze it!
Fill up your empty K-cups with coffee, juice or tea and use them as ice cubes in your super cool summer drinks! You can make itty bitty popsicles out of K-cups too, using yogurt, juice or a blend of vanilla protein with either for a bite-sized summer treat. Try filling the cup with butter and your favourite herbs for perfectly portioned herb butter, ready to add to veggies or garlic bread when you need it!
- Organize Small Items!
Is your miscellaneous drawer a mess? Store thumbtacks, buttons, paperclips, erasers and more in K-cups! They’re especially useful in the craft room, with tiny beads and other small craft items that need sorting. They also work great for sorting coins and storing sewing supplies!
- Crafting with K-Cups!
Not only are they perfect for sorting crafting items, but they’re also perfect to use as the crafting item! Add some pizazz to any string of lights by widening the holes in the bottom of the K-cup to fit the light, decorate the cup with paint, markers or tape and push a light through each K-cup. Easily enhance any occasion with your own set of custom lights! You can turn your old K-cups into a Christmas wreath, an advent calendar or a perfect circle stamp!
These are just a few of the ways you can upcycle your K-cups into something useful or fun. But if you’d rather just clean out and recycle your K-cups, we 100% support this! However you decide to recycle your K-cups, find your next favourite flavour at Singlecup.ca!
