There isn’t a “right way” to enjoy your coffee as you may have learned from coffee dates with friends who each have their own way of savouring a cup of Joe. But if you’re interested in other tried and true methods of preparing your coffee, may we offer a few of our favourites?
Pour Over / Drip Coffee Cone
Arguably the oldest and simplest practice of preparing a cup of coffee, the pour-over method is a fast, cheap way to make your morning or afternoon coffee. Using a cone and a paper filter, hot water is poured over the ground coffee and gravity allows it to drip through into a cup or a pot. Cones are typically made from stainless steel, plastic or ceramic and the shape of the cone can actually influence the flavour of the coffee! You’ll want to grind your beans medium-fine to get the right consistency for this method. Our favourite way to enjoy the pour-over is with a Chemex, though you will need heavier paper filters and a coarser grind for this brewing strategy!
AeroPress or Plunge/Press
From Alan Adler, the guy who brought you the Aerobie Frisbee, comes a delicious brewing method called the AeroPress! Perfect for those on the go, the AeroPress is a dependable and uncomplicated way to make a brew in just a few minutes. It’s easy to use and easy to clean, making it a must-have for those who travel. It consists of three parts; the syringe, the plunger and the filter chamber, all made with BPA plastics. Ground coffee is added to the brewing chamber where hot water is added to immerse the coffee in order to steep it. The plunger is then pressed down which uses the air pressure to push the coffee through the microfilter and into the cup below, making about 8oz of delicious coffee. It is of course up to you how strong you’d like your coffee and it’s the perfect way to enjoy your coffee break, basically anywhere!
Toddy Cold Brew System
Perhaps you’re the person who enjoys your java cold and readily available. Well, this last way to brew your coffee, a whole 1.6L of it, might be your new favourite thing! The Toddy Cold Brew System is the easiest at-home way to make a bold and perfectly balanced coffee concentrate. Once you’ve mixed the water and the coffee as per the instructions, all you have to do is put it in the fridge for 12hrs and wait for the magic to happen! Then simply decant your delicious coffee concentrate into the supplied carafe and prepare your coffee how you like it! Think iced cappuccinos, lattes and Americanos, blended or flavourful cold coffee beverages, whatever suits your taste! And we’d be remiss if we didn’t tell you that the Toddy Cold Brew System also makes superb tea!
Like we’ve said, there isn’t one right way to enjoy your coffee, there are many! What will be your coffee drink of choice be this fall?
